Care

“I can always tell my tutor if I have a problem, and he will help me to sort it out.”

Year 9 Student

Pastoral Overview

We aim to provide students with a caring, supportive and disciplined learning environment where they can develop their skills and grow in self-confidence.

We have a strong pastoral system which aims to give students a sense of consistency throughout their time at the college.  Each child is allocated a personal tutor when they join us – this member of staff will meet regularly with the student throughout their time at John Ferneley College to monitor their academic progress and also offer guidance and support for their personal and social development.

Each Zone Director is responsible for the pastoral support of a year group tutor team, giving an extra layer of continuity and support. Each year group is situated in one of the five zones for registration, which means that students have the added consistency of knowing the zone team and building relationships within their year group.

This comprehensive pastoral system is underpinned by a number of key policy documents.
