“The recycling boxes are a great idea – my teacher explained what happens to all the paper we put in there.”

Student Charter

The John Ferneley Charter underpins every aspect of college life with its focus on the concepts of Rights, Responsibilities and Respect.

The charter serves as a daily reminder of the positive ethos of the college. We believe that students have the right to expect a high quality education, to learn in a caring and disciplined environment and to have a wide range of new opportunities available to them.  However, with rights come responsibilities. We expect our students to try hard and participate in lessons at all times; to do their homework; wear a uniform and use the facilities properly.  Finally, John Ferneley College encourages students to respect themselves and each other, as well as members of staff.

The expectations outlined in the charter and displayed around the college reinforce the positive and mutually supportive atmosphere.  The strong moral and social message at the heart of the charter underpins all our dealings with children.

If students fail to act responsibly and show a lack of respect, members of staff have the right to apply appropriate sanctions.  These are identified in the college’s discipline policy.
