Progress, Assessment and Reporting
At John Ferneley College, we believe in giving students, and their parents, clear and practical information about their academic and personal progress throughout their time at the college.
Every student works towards a series of personal, aspirational targets for each subject – these are realistic and measured against their own abilities. We use comprehensive IT tracking systems to chart a student’s progress on a six-weekly basis, which means that we can spot underperformance very quickly and tackle any problems head on.
Students are given positive and focused verbal and written feedback by staff throughout the year, as well as being asked to carry out a formal self evaluation exercise in each subject.
Parents receive two reports each year – a progress report, and a full college report, which is supported by a yearly parents’ meeting (parents of Year 7 students attend two meetings). The parents’ evenings are an opportunity to meet with teachers in order to discuss progress and set targets. Check the college
calendar for the relevant dates.
Parents will soon be able to access their child’s progress (November 2010) by clicking the ‘My Child’ button (see bottom right), which will be updated every six weeks.
If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, you can ask for an interim report or meeting with staff at any time during the year.
