Our College

“I like that I have money loaded on my smart card - I don't need to remember to bring cash every day.”

Daily Life

Daily life at John Ferneley College has been designed to make the most of the timetable and to give students a consistent and practical structure to their day.

The college day begins at 8.45am when students meet with their form tutor each morning. They register via an electronic smart card which doubles up as a payment method for cashless restaurant purchases, printer credits and access to the automated library system.

For the rest of the day, students spend either half or whole-day blocks in one of the five learning zones with a 25-minute break time during the day. This gives students the opportunity to focus their studies and make productive use of their time instead of moving from classroom to classroom.

Lunchtime lasts for 50 minutes and is staggered to enable the best use of the facilities and to ensure that each year group can eat together. There are always staff on duty inside the restaurant and outside in the recreation areas.

A wide range of activities are on offer at lunchtime and after college.
