Our Community

“Even though there are 1,000 students here, I still feel I am known and understood."

Year 11 Student

Students

Students at John Ferneley College are part of a thriving and inclusive community where there is a heartfelt sense that every person matters as an individual and has a part to play in making the community stronger.

Staff in each learning zone are responsible for a specific year group, which provides our students with the support of a close-knit peer-based community.  The large, open plan restaurant and block timetable means that we are able to stagger lunchtimes, so that students always eat and take breaks with their year group.

Our students also have opportunities to be part of a wider academic community through our strong partnerships with other schools and further education colleges.  Our weekly timetable, with its half and whole day sessions, facilitates students travelling to other local institutions to take, for example, Diplomas or GCSE subjects that are not offered at John Ferneley College.
