Jason and the Argonauts
A cast of 42 students performed 'Jason and the Argonauts' at the brand new state of the art Curve Theatre in Leicester on Friday 26th June, as part of the Leicestershire Arts in Education Schools and Youth Festival.
The project has involved the students spending a day at Knighton Fields Art Centre as well as attending workshops in school, led by Advisory Teachers in Drama and Dance. This was clearly a fantastic opportunity for our students and a very exciting challenge!
A large number of Ferneley students also attended the schools' Matineé performance on the 26th June with the help of 'Find Your Talent' grant.
Drama Review Summer 2009
It has been a very busy year! In October 2008, a cast of thirty from John
Ferneley performed ‘Romeo and Juliet’ at Melton Theatre, as part of the
nationally organised Shakespeare schools Festival. In February, students
performed Roald Dahl’s ‘ The Vicar of Nibbleswicke’, participating in the
Leicester Comedy Festival.
This term a cast of 42 have been working hard on ‘Jason and the Argonauts’.
This was performed at the brand new state of the art Curve Theatre in
Leicester on Friday 26 th June, as part of the Leicestershire Arts in Education
Schools and Youth Festival. The project has involved the students spending a
day at Knighton Fields Art Centre and they have also had workshops in school
led by Advisory Teachers in Drama and Dance. This was clearly a fantastic
opportunity for our students and a very exciting challenge! A large number of
Ferneley students have also attended the schools’ Matineé performance on the
26th June with the help of ‘Find Your Talent’ grant.
I would like to thank Mrs Agrafioti, Mrs Feekins, Mrs Glynn, Mrs Lloyd,
Mrs O’Higgins and especially Miss Rowell, for their help and support with this
project. Thanks to those who hold the purse strings, for enabling students at
Ferneley to have this opportunity!
Congratulations and well done to the cast for
all their hard work and their commitment to this project!
My thanks also to all those students who have taken part in any of the Drama
projects this year and to their parents/guardians for their interest and support.

Drama Update Spring 2009
On Thursday 12th February 2009, a cast of 14 pupils from John Ferneley performed at
the Knighton Fields Arts in Education Centre, as part of the Leicester Comedy
Festival 2009. The event was kicked off by Paul Kerensa, a professional
comedian, and the Ferneley pupils, along with students from a number of
schools, performed their comedy sketches. Well done to those who brought
Roald Dahl’s ‘The Vicar of Nibbleswicke’ to life!
A cast of 45 pupils is now rehearsing for ‘Jason and the Argonauts’. There will be
a schools’ matinee performance on Friday 26 th June, which pupils from Ferneley
will be able to attend, and then an evening performance on the same day. Both
performances will be at the brand new state-of-the-art
Curve Theatre in
Leicester. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and another exciting
challenge ! Watch this space!

The many hours of reheasals paid off and your work received high praise. The cast was very professional and represented Ferneley well at both the workshop, run by the National Youth Theatre, and on the rehearsal day at the theatre.
Many thanks to those staff who gave their time and support, helping with costume, set design and props, transportation, typing, backstage management etc.etc.
The project was a valuable and enjoyable experience for the pupils - and for myself!

‘Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations’
On Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th July 2007, pupils from Years 7, 8 and 9 performed ‘Ernie’s Incredible Illucinations’ by Alan Ayckbourn. Congratulations to the whole cast and crew who worked extremely hard to convey the humour of the play. They clearly succeeded judging by the laughter of the audience.
Thank you to all those who helped in any way but especially to Mrs Glynn and Miss Rowell and the ADT Department for creating, with the pupils, the fantastic sets, props, puppets, masks etc etc, not only for this production but also for the Primary School Tour last October and for our performance of ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ at the Melton Theatre in February.
Congratulations to Fiona Primrose who was awarded ‘The Ernest Howe Memorial Shield’ for her contribution to drama during her three years at John Ferneley. She is just one of a large number of talented Year 9 pupils who have shown dedication and commitment to extra-curricular drama during their time here. They will all be missed!
Next term, rehearsals will commence for a ‘pantomime’ involving both staff and pupils. Should be fun!! Hope to see you all there!

Primary School Tour
October 2006
On Thursday 19th and Friday 20th October, a cast of 41 pupil from John Ferneley's Drama Club, toured a number of Primary Schools in the Melton area, performing young children's stories. The Art Club had also worked extremely hard to produce props, masks and other interesting items (including a toilet!) to help to bring these stories to life.
The children at Brownlow, Ab Kettleby, Birch Wood, St Mary's, Old Dalby and The Grove, were treated to 'The Enormous Turnip', 'Boo', 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt' and 'The three Little Pigs'. It was a delight to watch the faces of the children and young people in these audiences and to witness the talent, teamwork and professionalism of the Ferneley students.
The whole tour was a creative, entertaining and enjoyable learning experience for all those involved!
